The present analysis by the Stiftung Klimaneutralität (Foundation for Climate Neutrality) closes this gap. Based on around 99,000 tariff data points from the Chargeprice export of March 2026, it provides the first comprehensive comparison of all publicly available DC and HPC fast-charging prices in Germany — spanning over 375 charge point operators (CPOs) and 412 e-mobility providers (EMPs).

The findings are revealing: at one and the same charging station, up to three different prices can apply for the same kilowatt-hour — depending on whether a customer pays ad hoc, uses the operator's own tariff, or roams with a third-party provider. The median markup for third-party EMP customers compared to the operator's own EMP tariff is 34%, while the ad-hoc price range spans from €0.39 to €0.94/kWh.

The analysis examines how these price differences arise, which types of operators charge particularly high or low prices, and to what extent the observed patterns are compatible with the requirements of a functioning competitive market as well as the legal requirements of the EU regulation AFIR (Article 5).
